A statement from David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora)

Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) joined fellow Albany legislators to denounce New York’s bail laws as a dangerous farce. The most recent example of bail reforms’ failures came in a disturbing Long Island incident where body parts were discovered across Suffolk County. The four suspects who pleaded not guilty to charges of hindering prosecution, concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence were not held on bail due to the state’s criminal justice reform laws. Republicans in Albany came together to introduce bills that would allow for authorities to hold bail for gruesome crimes like mutilation of a human corpse.

“New York’s current bail laws are an affront to justice and public safety. The freedom granted to individuals accused of such heinous crimes is a slap in the face to victims and their families. By refusing to hold these offenders accountable, Albany Democrats have blood on their hands. We demand immediate action to repeal the disastrous cashless bail reform before more lives are shattered,” stated DiPietro.
