Assemblyman David DiPietro (R,C-East Aurora) with the support of Sen. George Borello is proud to announce the signing of his bill by Gov. Hochul that will rename a portion of State Route 19 from Eddy Road to East Mill Street as the T Sgt. Walter Shearing Memorial Highway. T Sgt. Walter Shearing served in World War II in General Patton’s 7th Army before tragically passing in the final days of the war at the age of 27. For his service, T Sgt. Shearing was awarded two Bronze Star Medals, the Purple Heart, and a Combat Infantry Badge.
“Enactment of this bill ensures the memory of T. Sgt. Walter Shearing will remain in our community for years to come,” said DiPietro. “I am honored to be able to enshrine his name into our community, and while we cannot ever hope to repay him for his sacrifice, we can ensure his legacy remains in his hometown forever”.
Assemblyman David DiPietro represents the 147th Assembly District, which includes parts of Erie and Wyoming counties.
